Jen and Melanie are co-founders of Hot Chicks Write Books, and were so kind (and brave enough) to have me on their podcast.

If I don’t say so myself, I dropped some serious awesomeness there.

In fact it’s something that I think YOU can use to start writing your book today.

Literally.

First, I want to tell you I had a blast with these ladies.

I was so excited to hang with these chicks, I even wore a special PINK shirt. (Pink with white embroidery – what chick wouldn’t like that?)

You may not know this about me, but in a past life, I traveled the world.

I ran a watersports business and I became a boat captain and SCUBA INSTRUCTOR so I could take friends and family on the coolest adventures on the planet.

My company grew to charter Adventure Tours in all the coolest places:

The Bahamas
Turks & Caicos
The British Virgin Islands
The Galapagos Islands,
Etc.

… all while… there LIVED INSIDE OF ME…

…I had this desire to write a book.

It burned in me.

I knew I wanted to write a book.
Several books.

However, I spent 20 years doing it WRONG!

One book idea was, “A Backpack and a Smile.”
Another was, “A Dollar Is Not a Tip and the Beach Is Not an Ashtray.”
Another was about some of my successes.
Another about my challenges.
Another about mindset.

Long story short, and you can probably already guess this.

I didn’t write ANY of those books.

Oh, I worked on them.

Yes, I wasted time on them.

Yes, I was DELUDED enough to think I was making progress.

But I wasn’t.

I’d finish another year – not publishing my book.

I started to feel like quite a liar, and quite a failure.

What finally pushed me over the edge?

It was the disgust I had for myself not getting it done.

The broken promises I’d made to myself… and the understanding that I’d WASTED all my time… was FINALLY TOO MUCH TO HANDLE.

What did I do?

Finally broke down, and got some help.

That’s all it took.

I hired a mentor.

His STORY moved me, because he’d written his first book – while he was going through “chemo.”

Somehow, during the only hour a day between his hair falling out, vomiting in a bucket, and sleeping… he pulled out his phone, and dictated his first book.

That was finally published.

And he made over 7 figures with it.

*MY EXCUSES SEEMED PRETTY PALTRY, BY COMPARISON.

So, I hired him.

And he helped me.

And the first year my wife and I published our first books, we added a ZERO to our income.

Think about that for a minute!

I’m curious, “What’s the most money you’ve ever made?”

Write that number down: _________________

Now add a ZERO to the back of it.

Even though I’m not real good at math, even I could figure out that’s a 10X result.

10X.

So check this:

Instead of wasting time not getting my books done.

Instead of breaking my word to myself.

Instead of making excuses.

I FINALLY made it happen.

And the results?

Were epic.

I am glad I endured challenging times because it helps me now help people like you… realize YOUR dreams.

That’s how you start.

Here are 7 simple steps you can use to hit your final goal — your finished book — however, as you will learn soon enough, your “book” is only the “beginning.”

Here are the 7 steps:

  1. Strategy – Again why, and what is your plan? Hint: I am excellent at this part.
  2. Structure/Outline – Don’t overcomplicate it. This is a table of contents with between 8-12 chapters.
  3. Stories – The idea is to fill in a story per chapter. Take five mins and plug the stories into the chapter outline.
  4. Set a date – When are you going to deliver? And don’t forget about making your declaration that you will write your book in the first place. Tell the world and they will hold you accountable.
  5. Speak your book – Talk into your phone, your computer, a fancy mic. Doesn’t matter… just tell your story into a recording device.
  6. Scribe/Transcribe – You can even hire someone from Fiverr like my daughter did, who was seven at the time. So if a child can do it… if a little girl can do it… YOU CAN, TOO!
  7. Source – Hire an editor, a graphic designer, etc. This is where you need your team of people to do the work to get the book done.

I created these steps to make it easy for you, and possibly inspire you to believe you can get it done.
