When you ask people, especially young professionals, about what their goals are in life, you generally hear things like:

  • Get married
  • Have children
  • Travel the world
  • Run a marathon
  • Write a book

All of those things feed into a desire to LIVE and LOVE and to CONTRIBUTE. We’re not here for only our own personal-success, we’re here to make a difference and to create something new—on our own.

How many people, however, ever really realize those dreams?

Most people form a family unit at some point—a little over 2 million people get married every year in America. But only about a third of Americans have a passport; and only twenty percent travel abroad with “some regularity.” Less than one percent of Americans ever get around to running a marathon, and, while more than 80 percent of Americans would like to be an author, and that they “have a book in them,” very few (only about 1 percent) actually ever publish one.

If you’re part of the 80%, here’s the first step to becoming part of the 1%:

Determine your “why”?

Let’s not sugar-coat it – writing a book is not really “hard,” but it is a pretty daunting task for most people. The beliefs that “It takes a long time,” and “you’ll experience a ton of rejection,” and fears about what people will think of your writing, and “but, I’m not a professional author,” and “I don’t know where to get started,” hold most people back. And let’s face it, with only about 1% of people ever following through… there’s no guarantee that you’ll succeed.

So, it’s important that you start with a really good reason “why” you want to write, or you’ll give up when the going gets rough, or you get confused, or life just get’s-in-the-way.

REASON ONE: You have something important to tell the world.I’ve written several books that have improved the lives of entrepreneurs by teaching them how to succeed. Many have composed self-help guides that have improved relationships, health and happiness around the globe. Others have brought joy to their readers with imaginative and unique fiction. Still more have documented social problems that need to be addressed, and started conversations that might have waited years longer without their help. The list goes on.

REASON TWO: You’re chasing a little bit of immortality. By writing a book, your thoughts will be imparted on to the next generation, and many more to come. You’ll touch hearts and minds that you’ll never meet, and have an impact on those around the globe and through time.

REASON THREE: Growing your personal brand. In my opinion, EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A BOOK. Having a book is one of the best-possible-ways for you to build your personal brand, and grow your business/career. It makes it easier once you have the “oomph” of being a published author. (Or better yet, a #1 bestselling author.) If you’re trying to start a new company, make more money, build a nonprofit or a passion project… publishing a book will not only ensure you’re perceived as being “highly educated” about the topic you’re championing, but also serve as “proof” to others that you’re an expert. Books are a great tool to have on hand when convincing others of the importance of what you’re doing, gaining their interest, and building a community.

REASON FOUR: You’d like to create a source of ongoing passive income. Have you ever seen a books that was simple guides for completing a task? Imagine what it would be like to collect income over-and-over-and-over-again, as people downloaded and buy your book, and soon the additional products and services that you sell. A constant paycheck would certainly come in handy as you pursue other projects. Zig Ziglar said it best: “Money isn’t everything; but it ranks right up there with oxygen.” A completely valid reason for you to write a book, is to grow a business around a book or books. In fact: If you don’t create book that, people want to buy, and makes a profit, you won’t have any money to pay-for-marketing so that people will read your book.

Did you hear that? Unless your book makes money… NOBODY WILL READ IT. Why? Because you won’t be able to afford to PAY FOR MARKETING to get people to read it. Right now, you (and your book) are an unknown to most of the world. It’s your job to figure out how to come out of obscurity, and get their ATTENTION.

Your new book, is a Phenomenal way to do that.

Your new GREAT book, is a perfect (and the most powerful) way for you to build:

  • Credibility,
  • Authority,
  • Trust, and ideally
  • DESIRE for people to want…
  • more of YOU, and your Products and Services.

WHAT’S YOUR REASON? Perhaps you have a better reason for writing a book. If so, even better! Maybe your grandma had the best meatball recipe known to man, and you just can’t wait to share it. WELL DO IT THEN!!! No matter the reason you want to write a book… I’m here to help.

Over the last few years, I’ve figured out the simple 1-2-3 to help you:1. Write your great book fast, 2. Market it to a #1 bestseller, and 3. Monetize your book, and build a 6-7 figure business behind it.

I’ll be covering how to get started, how to write the best material you’re capable of, bestseller publishing advice, ongoing marketing, how to get press and media, and more over the next weeks, so stay tuned.
